[Slumdog Millionaire] has been on the big screen for about a month now, but it only became the talk of the town during the 3rd week into screening after the film bagged itself 8 academy awards, and with raving reviews over the papers and magazines, it's no wonder this film became the hot topic.
I wasn't really interested in this show initially because it was a Hindi film, but after reading about the many awards it has swept at the Oscars, I really wanted to watch it and see for myself if it was really that great a film. Indeed, after watching it, I give it two-thumbs up! The film was no melodrama in anyway, there was a rustic charm to the show, and it brought about tears and laughter's during the 2hrs. I felt the film was rather thought provoking. There was this scene in the film where the kid was stuck in the toilet, and he jumped down into the pool of excrement to get out so that we could chase after his idol to get an autograph. In the modern city like Singapore where kids just have to ask to get what they want, this scene kinda jolted me that we should "fight hard and work for what we want", instead of just wanting things to go the easy way. There were heart-wrenching moments too, where the film showed how kids were being mutilated and made to beg in the streets.
All in all, this film portrayed the reality of the world well, at the same time bringing about hope in life :)
